Sunday~April 20 ~2008

This is a Moss Eating Newt Roach. Very rare, very venomous, equally at home on land or in water, and a swift climber.

It feeds at dusk, stripping moss off the rocks with relish. As the sky light begins to fade and it's belly becomes packed to the gunwales, the Newt Roach makes the journey back to it's nest...

As it zeros in on it's abode it picks up speed, scrambling madly over the fauna. Incredibly, it seems to be climbing and burrowing at the same time!

When the debris settles we find the little beast curled up peacefully in it's hideaway.

Do Moss Eating Newt Roaches dream? We really do not know. Sorry.
